Too cold to knit!

Today was set aside to knit and blog, but the weather has taken a turn for the worse and it is freezing in the house. So bad that I am sat here with a blanket round me and the laptop on my knee because it is so warm! The project that I was working on – Debbie Bliss’s Baby Jacket with moss stitch bands (from “Baby Knits for Beginners”) is on metal needles and they are even cold to hold.

The baby jacket is being knitted in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in a dusky pink. The yarn was purchased on our trip to Leeds 2 weeks ago where I spent a wonderful hour fondling beautiful yarn in Baa Ram Ewe, Leed’s premier knitting shop. I spent far too much money in there but have plenty of projects to go at following that trip. More will be revealed! The staff are lovely and they only stock the finest quality yarns and are specialising in Yorkshire produced yarns. So well worth a visit if you are in the area.

This week has been a little hectic and I have been far too busy to blog! So I am trying to catch up now. I must make the effort to do it more often especially when I have so much to share. The reason for this week’s lack of effort, however, has mostly been the fact that I have started a new job this week and was busy trying to learn as much from the incumbent as humanly possible before she leaves the country next week. In addition, I am still managing a workload from my current job. I have taken the post on a trail basis to try it for size before committing to a permanent move in 3 weeks. Watch this space!

Tuesday evening was set aside for knit and natter at Relax Cafe in Hull, where the owner of “Babes in the Wool” on Newland Avenue runs a monthly group. Every month we buy a raffle ticket for a couple of quid to help cover the cost of the venue. Last month was my first visit and I won a lovely skein of wool.  This month one of my small group won a fabulous knitting bag from Mafana.  The products are produced in Madagascar and subscribes to the 10 principles of Fair Trade. Regardless of whether you have a social conscience or not the items are beautiful and I can’t wait to own some myself!
